Conference programme

Through a combination of presentations, workshops, discussions and networking, the International Pandemic Sciences Conference is the world’s largest global meeting focused on pandemic sciences research.

This year’s programme will focus on themes including Vaccines and immunology; Epidemiology, data and analytics; Diagnostics; Policy and politics; Therapeutics and clinical trials; Ethics, social science and humanities and Pathogen biology and new threats.

In interdisciplinary plenary sessions, experts will explore:

  • Optimising early responses to a potential pandemic, with a focus on the first 100 days after a pandemic threat is identified.
  • Preparing for highly pathogenic respiratory threats, using Nipah virus as a case study.
  • Global readiness for the next pandemic, with a discussion on regulatory, financial and policy efforts.

Professor Ross Upshur, Head of the Division of Clinical Public Health at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and plenary speaker, said: “The University of Oxford’s Pandemic Sciences Institute annual conference is quickly becoming a must attend event. I look forward to the rich and unique blend of sessions, bringing together world-leading experts, and representing the diverse interdisciplinary skills and research approaches required for better preparation for future pandemics.”

Dr Dalan Bailey, Group Leader at the Pirbright Institute and parallel session chair said: "I’m very excited about the upcoming PSI meeting. What struck me about last year’s conference was the international representation, the networking opportunities, and the broad scope of the meeting, from policy and ethics to epidemiology and molecular immunology."

Networking opportunities

The conference programme is complemented by networking opportunities including:

  • Funders forum – a platform for pandemic research funders to share their future funding strategies and activities.
  • Early-career networking breakfast – where delegates in the early stages of their careers are invited to foster connections, and exchange knowledge and ideas.
  • Informal conference drinks and dinner – an evening of networking at Oxford’s stunning Museum of Natural History.

Professor Christl Donnelly, Principal Investigator at the Pandemic Sciences Institute, said: "I’m really looking forward to this year’s International Pandemic Sciences Conference… It really is ultra-networking with the world’s pandemic sciences leaders meeting the next generation of scientists, social scientists, and policymakers."
